La Crainte
Engraved by Noel Le Mire after a painting by Jean-Baptiste le Prince.
Engraving on heavy wove paper. We believe this is probably an early 19th century steeplate engraving after an 18th century original. There is an annotation that the image was printed in Paris , Chez DANLOS quai Malaquai, 1.
Text below the print reads: Grave par N. Le Mire des Academies Imperiales et Royales et de celles des Siences et Arts de Rouen d'apres le Tableau Original de J. B. le Prince, Peintre du Roy.
Dimensions: Platemark - 19.5 X 16 inches (49 X 41 cm) - Full sheet 27 X 20 inches (69 X 51 cm)
Condition: Interior of the print is in good condition, with very faint discoloration of the sheet. A tear running from the top margin down to the upper edge of the bed curtain has been repaired. The outermargins are quite damaged with multiple tears running in from the edge of the sheet. None of these come near the platemark however.
